Denver Open Acupuncture was founded by Jenn Gross who learned of the successful business model for sliding scale acupuncture developed at Working Class Acupuncture in Portland, OR. After ten years of private practice, Jenn was gratified to find that WCA clinic founders Lisa Rohleder and Skip Van Meter were committed to sharing their business model to make acupuncture treatment affordable and became one of many who chose to adopt it into practice. Denver Open Acupuncture began operation in May 2007 on East 22nd Avenue and moved to its current location on March 1, 2009 with the goal of providing Denver with affordable acupuncture and wellness treatment.
Jennifer Gross earned her Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (M.Ac.O.M.) from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in June 1997, received her national certification (Dipl. Ac.) in July of that year along with her Oregon license. She has been state registered and then licensed (L.Ac.) in Colorado since January 1999. In addition, she earned a B.A. from New York University in Liberal Arts with a focus in studio art, art education and art history in May 1990 and most recently completed the Certificate of Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health in May 2009. Jenn is currently continuing coursework towards a Master in Public Health and the clinic schedule will vary with her course load each semester.
Jenn has been providing acudetox treatments at the Harm Reduction Action Center, a drop in center focusing on intervention and treatment of IV drug users, since May 2004. She informs her acupuncture practice through the study of acupuncture lineages from Korea, Taiwan and China and specific lineages of Qi Gong (Chinese energy exercise and cultivation).
